You will not own me

Project statement

[...] 'there is something predatory in the act of taking a picture. To photograph people is to violate them, by seeing them as they never see themselves, by having knowledge of them they can never have; it turns people into objects that can be symbolically possessed.' [...]

— Sontag, Susan (1978), On photography. London: Penguin

This project explores the relationship in between the photographer and the person photographed. When posing with their vulnerable bodies exposed to the camera, models — turned away from the photographer — do not engage in direct eye contact and do not expose themselves directly to the camera operator. This increases the distance in between both individuals, and pushes the element of a predatory act away. People are turn into objects, which are not possessed by the photographer.
